Sessions

These are prearranged conversations with your Haven Nurse to catch up on how things are going with your WIN (What’s Important Now) outcomes and goals. The sessions are a time for emotional and practical support. Space to chat and work through what’s happening and what your next steps could be. They give you a chance to highlight and acknowledge any changes from your last session or new needs that could help us support you better and shape your personalised plan.

Your Support Sessions can be at a pace that suits you best, that might be weekly or fortnightly or less often - whatever meets your needs. The session will last up to 1 hour.

These sessions are pre arranged and delivered in-person from one of our Haven centres, by telephone or video call.

Your Haven Nurse will remain your key person of contact, ensuring continuity of care and support for as long as required. (We will also encourage you to feedback on the session to monitor how well we are doing in supporting you)

A Wellbeing Session is a conversation with your Haven Practitioner about how you are doing with self-managing your progress. That means we might just be checking that things are still going well or supporting you to take further steps towards your outcomes. People find these conversations positive and affirming. Sometimes we all need to hear a, “Well Done!” or have someone give us strength to keep going.

This is likely to be a monthly conversation and last for up to 30 minutes.

These sessions will be either in-person, a phone call o r a pre-arranged video call with your Haven Nurse. (We will also encourage you to feedback on the session to monitor how well we are doing in supporting you)

Groups

At The Haven we run a range of themed groups because we know that it is better when we face the future together. They are delivered by our Wellbeing Practitioners and are an opportunity to find support or connection, enhance your emotional wellbeing, take a break and have fun! There are sessions focussed on wellbeing, creativity, relaxation and building connections with others who may have similar experiences. These groups change from time to time depending on the needs of The Haven Community.

Your Haven Nurse will be able to let you know what groups are currently running.

These are prearranged sessions with a Haven Wellbeing Practitioner which will give you the chance to learn new techniques that will help you to enhance and maintain your wellbeing.

The coaching sessions focus on your general wellbeing and incorporate techniques such as therapeutic breathing, mindfulness and relaxation.

Sessions support the work with nurse and help to move you closer to your overall outcomes.

How often your sessions will be will depend on what your needs are.  These may be weekly, fortnightly or as and when required, whatever you feel would be most useful to best support you.

Your Haven Nurse will help you to identify whether self-management wellbeing sessions would be of benefit to you and will make an internal referral to our Wellbeing Practitioners where there is an identified need.

Complementary Therapy Wellbeing Sessions

Massage Therapy

We know that illness, caring and bereavement can take it's toll on physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Our Wellbeing Practitioners can offer a range of complementary therapies including massage, reiki and reflexology. These sessions can help to relieve aches and pains, provide some rest and relaxation time and a short break.

Your Haven Nurse will work with you to identify whether complementary therapy wellbeing sessions would be of benefit and appropriate for your needs. Where the need has been identified an internal referral will be made to our Wellbeing Practitioners.

Signposting

Signposting is all about helping you to get the best help and support that is available to you. Some of that emotional and practical support will come directly from The Haven. Some will come from linking you to wider support networks and specialist services.

Our Nurses and team are well informed of the other services that are available in your area. In your regular conversations they will let you know if there are any other organisations that could help you, your family or carers. Often your support from Haven will work alongside the support from others. It may be that signposting is all you need from The Haven right now … but please remember the door is always open and you can come back to us as often as you need.
