Local Dad Exceeds Fundraising Target for Local Charity

Over £2000 of funds raised to help support those affected by illness

Kenny Gilmour, 38, from Lesmahagow, South Lanarkshire, recently took part in a sponsored hike to the summit of Scotland’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, to raise funds for The Haven.

The summit is 1,345 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain, not only in Scotland, but in all of the United Kingdom.

Kenny’s wife, Alison, who started working with The Haven at the end of 2021, supported her husband during all of his training. Alison is one of The Haven Nurses who provide practical, emotional, wellbeing and bereavement support to individuals, families and carers across Lanarkshire.

Alison said: “I know first-hand the difference their fundraising efforts will make as it will help ensure continued access to vital emotional support services for vulnerable individuals and families, and help achieve The Haven’s aim of reaching out and helping even more families ‘Face the Future with Hope’ during these challenging times”.

Joined by his two sons, the 38 year old from Lesmahagow took part the sponsored 4,413ft hike on Tuesday 26th July 2022 with the beautiful, picturesque snowy backdrop of Scotland behind them to raise funds for local charity, The Haven - reaching its peak within an impressive 3hours10minutes. An incredible effort and achievement for them all.

Although the weather was thankfully in their favour, they all agreed it was a tough, yet very enjoyable challenge and experience.

Kenny said: “I’m buzzing! I’m so proud of my two sons. When we first had this idea, we thought that £1000 was being slightly ambitious, but we have reached over £2000. Thank you to everyone who donated. You’re all so kind. These funds will go a long way to assist The Haven supporting those in need. Thank you everyone! Your kindness is so much appreciated and will not be forgotten”.

The Haven would like to say a very special thank you to Kenny and the boys for their incredible effort, enthusiasm and participation in taking part in such a vigorous, and exciting fundraising challenge. Also, thank you for the generosity of everyone who donated to help support a local cause.
