Volunteering

Volunteers are vital to the work of The Haven and help in a number of ways.

They are often the first contact for clients attending the centre and by making tea and coffee and providing emotional and social support, they provide a warm, welcoming environment where people can relax and feel at ease.

Volunteers participate in a number of activities including:

  • Undertaking administrative tasks
  • Producing a newsletter
  • Developing patient information packs
  • Providing complementary therapies
  • Organising fund raising events

Volunteering has benefits for both clients and volunteers

Many people enjoy:

  • Meeting others and making new friends
  • Learning new skills
  • Using their existing skills in a positive way

Above all, volunteers often find personal satisfaction in being involved in something worthwhile and feeling that they can make a difference.

The most important ‘skills’ needed by a volunteer at The Haven are:

  • The desire to help others
  • The ability to be a good listener
